Anytime you decide to dine with Rover in tow, it's important to keep in mind a few tips to make the experience enjoyable for you, your dog, other diners and the restaurant: (Dog-Friendly Restaurants)
* Keep in mind that not ALL dogs are suitable restaurant companions. If they are hyper, aggressive toward other dogs or people, or simply rambunctious, a picnic in the park or in your backyard may be a more appropriate outing.
* Always make sure your dog is contained in a carrier or on a short leash so that he can sit or lie down right by your chair.
* Before sitting down to dinner, walk your dog and make sure he has "done his business" before arriving at the restaurant.
* Be prepared with pick up bags and stain and odor remover should you an accident occur and you need to pick up after your dog.
* Do not rely upon the restaurant to have a water bowl for your dog. Health department rules prevent them from using their dishes for dogs - and they may not have disposable items to provide for you. Always bring something along and they will usually accommodate by providing you with an extra glass of water to use.
* Avoid feeding your dog from the table as that could encourage begging from other customers - and add inches to his waistline!
* Make sure to thank the restaurant for allowing you to bring your dog.
A little good behavior - from you and your dog - will go a long way towards making sure that these restaurants continue to allow us to bring our furry family members along to dinner. Before you know it, more restaurants will decide they too want to be like Generation Dog: Where Dogs Are Family.
