The Generation Dog community celebrates the love of dogs and the joy in treating them as part of the family. Here are some of our friends who share our philosophy. If you'd like to have a link on the Generation Dog site, email us at and tell us a little about your site.

Looking to expand your family?
Don't forget about all the furry friends in need of love and care in the many shelters around the country. Some of our favorites are listed below:

Greater Birmingham Humane Society
GBHS is dedicated to promoting respect for life through education and prevention of cruelty to animals and people. Fred, a feisty mix breed whose likeness appears on the Generation Dog emergency sticker, was adopted from here. Catherine also volunteered for this organization for years.

Shelby Humane Society
Also serving the Birmingham area, Shelby Humane won the Beneful Dream Dog Park Contest. Generation Dog hosted a “Yappy Hour” to raise funds for this campaign.

Two by Two Rescue
Two by two doesn’t have a shelter per se but volunteers foster dogs until they find their forever homes. They also host dog-friendly events throughout the year.

Cavalier Rescue of Alabama
Stella, the cavalier immortalized on our logo, inspired such a love for the breed in Catherine that she volunteered with this organization in the past. They rescue or acquire cavalier king charles spaniels from puppy mill auctions then provide them with needed medical care and place them in loving homes.

Denver Cat Company
Denver Cat Company is one of the country's first cat cafés, founded in December 2014. Denver Cat Company features adoptable cats sourced via its non-profit arm, Denver Cat Rescue. They save cats from high kill shelters in underfunded states and give them a shot to thrive in animal-loving Denver.

Denver Dumb Friends League
Works with the compassionate Colorado community to end pet homelessness and animal suffering.

A non-profit, No Kill shelter established in May 1988. MaxFund takes in and nurtures injured animals with no known owner. And then finds loving forever homes for these animals once they have recovered.

Mile High Lab Mission
The Mile High Labrador Retriever Mission, (MHLRM), a 501(c)3 non-profit public charity, is dedicated to alleviating the needless death and suffering of homeless or misplaced (lost and stray) purebred Labrador Retrievers as well as Labrador mixes mostly in high-kill overpopulated pet areas that typically are out of Colorado.

Safe Harbor Lab Rescue
Safe Harbor has been in continuous operation since its founding in 2002. Through July 2022, they have rescued over 4,400 Labs. An all-volunteer organization works to rehome stray, abandoned or surrendered Labrador Retrievers giving priority to those in Colorado.

Louisiana SPCA
The Louisiana SPCA is alive and kicking still after being completely flooded. Sasha, the inspiration for the Rottweiler in our logo, was an official chair dog for one of their events back in the day.

St. Francis Animal Sanctuary - Louisiana & Mississippi Delta Area
The St. Francis Animal Sanctuary has a particular place in my heart our hearts because they rescued Cooper, the inspiration for the golden dog in our logo, at a week old and bottle fed and cared for him until he came to me became Catherine’s best friend at 2 1/2 months old.

Wherever you live, Petfinder can direct you to dogs available at shelters near you.

Weimeraner Rescue of the South
Do you love weimeraners? If so, adopt one of the available dogs from this Rescue organization instead of going to a breeder. You may also volunteer and make donations to help these majestic animals. We partnered with this charity on a fundraiser once.

Looking to help our animal friends?
Even if you can't bring more pets into your family, there are other things you can do to help make sure our animal friends are well cared for. As follows are some of my favorite ways to help:

American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals
This national organization offers many ways to lend a hand.

Stop Puppy Mills
