“Paws for the Season” Holiday Card Contest

Filed under: Store Info — Gen Dog @ 7:26 am
The Greater Birmingham Humane Society invites all students in grades K through 12 to enter their first Holiday Card Contest. Participating students have the opportunity to win $200.00. Each entry must be the personal and original work of the student. The theme for the contest is “Home for the Holidays” and should convey the message of happy pets being adopted and going to forever homes.

The guidelines for submission are as follows:

  • There must be no written or lettered “slogan” on the picture. All text should be included on a separate piece of paper.
  • All images must be created by the artist’s own hand. Computer generated art (clipart, scanned images, or any other form of pre-illustrated computer art) may not be used.
  • All artwork should measure 8.5″ x 11″ in its completed form.
  • Artwork may be paintings, prints, drawings, collages, or work done with mixed media of any kind. Three-dimensional work is not advisable due to possible damage during transit and while on display.
  • All artwork should be delivered to the Greater Birmingham Humane Society no later than October 12, 2007. If you mail your artwork to the GBHS, it must be postmarked no later than October 8, 2007 to ensure delivery by the October 12 deadline.

There will be four entry categories. They will be grades K-2, 3-5, 6-9, and 10-12.

Within each category our blue ribbon panel of judges will determine grand prize, first, second, and third prize winners. Each of these pieces of art will be considered for holiday cards for the Greater Birmingham Humane Society. There will be one overall grand prize winner who will receive a $200.00 cash prize and an award certificate. Honorable mention winners will receive certificates.

The winners will receive a letter with the specific location, time, and date for the award ceremony.

Grand prize, first, second, third place and honorable mention art will be displayed for purchase in the shelter’s “Fur Art’s Sake” gallery with proceeds going to the Greater Birmingham Humane Society.

All artwork MUST contain the following 8 pieces of information printed on the back of the artwork.

  1. Student’s name
  2. Student’s age
  3. Teacher’s name
  4. School’s name
  5. Student’s grade
  6. School district
  7. School address (including ZIP CODE)
